I just followed instructions like yours (except that on my computer it is necessary to click on ‘view’ in the Device Manager and select ‘show hidden devices’ in order to bring up Ports (COM & LPT) and a few other options) but was left wondering if I should change all my ports to COM1 so that I had choice as to where to plug in my device when using it, or whether I should leave the other ports well alone on the principle that whoever set them at whatever COM they were originally set them knew what they were doing and set them like that for a reason. Could you please explain in very simple language what it’s all about.
