Garmin MapSource 6.16.3 is a great free software, especially developed by Garmin.It enables you to create, view, edit waypoints, tracks and routes right on your PC.Once done you simply transfer them to your navigation device and you are ready for your next trip. Q why do you need a patched mapsource? All i did was download the M/S and dbl clicked the msi file and it installed and did updates perfectly. It also requires having a disk-based copy of the same maps that are in your Nuvi in order to work. The best way to get it is to call Garmin and ask for MapSource because you want to manage Routes and Favorites. They will usually send you the DVD with MapSource and a copy of the maps on it for a reasonable shipping fee of $10 or so. The program all by itself isn't very useful without the accompanying maps to install on your computer. I think I'll just wait a little and let others report how it works. Don, Based on your post I fired up the latest version of MapSource and played with it awhile. Per your edit I loaded in previously created routes (including some produced on a 2610 Streetpilot) and recalculated them.

Click to expand.Firstly, I would double check with Garmin Support regarding Lifetime nuMap Updates. It has been my understanding that one purchased the 'update' for current maps only - hence the term ' nuMap'. If that is the case, you will need to purchase the latest version of CNNA and then purchase the Lifetime nuMap Update. Of course, Garmin could have changed the way they are doing this (it's been a while since I had to go through this) but you should check so that you are using the correct 'cost model'.

It's waterproof. It fits in a pocket easily. It runs on batteries or can be plugged in to the computer USB or auto cigarette lighter receptical. Compass, altimeter, etc. Handy features that. I have the mounts needed to switch from car duty to bike. I also have a pouch/case that clips to my belt loop or backpack.

Cons: The screen is small. Lets face it. Smart phones have larger screens that this. It's discontinued. How long will Garmin continue to support it? I may keep it for another 10 years. Mapsource (version 6.16.3) reliability has been sketchy at best.
